Shashi Tharoor is known for his witty tweets and his impeccable use of the English language. It is not usual to see him tweet a series of confounding words that forces you to hunt for a dictionary. But, recently, he paused the tradition and tweeted a bit of Valentine’s Day advice for his followers. Though it came off as an advice, it was more of a barb directed at the Sangh Parivar. The tweet attracted the attention of trolls and politicians including Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
Tharoor’s jibe filled tweet said that if any member of the Sang Parivar try to threaten anyone when they’re out with a friend, the victims should defend themselves by saying they’re ‘celebrating the ancient Indian tradition of Kamadeva Divas!’ Responding to the tweet, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told ANI: "Shashi Tharoor bhai toh Love Guru hain. Ab koi Valentine day ka virodh kare toh Love Guru to uska virodh karega." (Shashi Tharoor is Love Guru, if someone protests against Valentine's Day, he will protest against them).
A number of organisations in India protest against Valentine’s Day celebrations. This includes Bajrang Dal, which as per reports, requested the cops to shut down parks. They even asked ‘lovers’ to stay away from ‘vulgar’ activities.
