We've all heard of the term anti-aging. But how does it work? Is it the food? Is it the skin cream that celebs sell on TV? Or is it the never-say-die mindset? Meet Dr. Josefina Monasterio. A bodybuilder, a life coach, a television anchor and an author. All this at the age of 71. Born and brought up in Venezuela, Monasterio pursued athletics when young. As a child, she took up gymnastics and graduated with a physical education degree. She completed her Master’s degree in Education from the Boston University and later did her Ph.D. in Adult Personal Development from the Nova University. She took up bodybuilding at an age when most people are thinking about retirement. Most of her life she was a teacher at the Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School in Cambridge, Massachusetts while she raised her two children. Inspired by Steve Pfiester, a gym trainer, she keenly took interest in the sport and within six months she was participating in her first competition.
Baba Ramdev recently said that humans can live up to 400 years. It seems Dr. Josefina shares the same view. “The aging process can be slowed down by taking care of mind, body, and spirit,” she said in an interview to NBC news. Every day, she wakes up at 3 a.m. to read the Bible, meditate and pray. Around 4.30 a.m. she goes out to walk three miles and run another three. After the run, she practices yoga and takes a swim at the beach as the sun rises.Between 8 am to 10 am, she writes her journals and also works on her upcoming book. Then she hits the gym where she trains for at least two hours.
Afternoons are devoted to relaxing, cleaning the house, reading and groceries. “I keep my life simple. I don´t drink or smoke, I don´t stress, I eat a balanced diet and by 8 p.m. lights are out,” said the vibrant American.
Since 2005 Dr. Josefina has been a successful Natural NPC competitor, with many victories at state and national bodybuilding competitions. She has co-hosted a show called ‘Centro’ for the NBC and has also appeared on TV shows such as ‘Sabado Gigante’ and ‘Primer Impacto’. She also has her own show on the local TV ‘Empowerment with Dr. Josefina’. Dr. Josefina has given motivational presentations in many parts of the United States, Latin America, the Bahamas, and Jamaica. She is empowering people to reach their full potential by cultivating the four components of the human personality namely body, mind, spirit, and emotions.
