Leaked email reveals Captain Virat Kohli responsible for coach Anil Kumble’s ouster
While team India’s coach former coach Anil Kumble’s infamous exit from the team grabbed many eyeballs, there were many speculations doing the rounds over his decision to step down. One year after his resignation as the head coach, shocking details behind Kumble’s ouster have emerged. In what can be called as a messy power struggle between former captain Kumble and current former Kohli, the latter played a major role in his coach’s resignation.
In a report by ESPNcricinfo, as per the leaked email conversation sent to BCCI by Diana Edulji, Committee of Administrators (CoA) have raised fresh questions about just how much power Kohli has in comparison to the cricket board. Kohli repeatedly sent text messages to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief executive Rahul Johri regarding worries about Kumble.
Edulji alleged that "Rules were broken and I had raised objections back then." "Virat did not accede to Kumble continuing in spite of CAC saying so," Edulji wrote in an email that was allegedly sent on Monday to several BCCI officials.
It all started four days ahead of the limited-overs Caribbean tour in 2017 post the Champions Trophy in England. Kumble decided to step down from his post after the board asked him to re-apply for the job after his contract ended post the CT in England. Under Kumble’s guidance, the team secured No.1 Test ranking with only one loss and 17 wins. But the former spin legend resigned shortly after and admitted at the time that the captain had reservations with his 'style' and about my continuing as the head coach and the partnership was untenable.
