The last couple of weeks have seen a lot of news surrounding Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul’s Koffee with Karan debacle. The duo has been suspended from all forms of cricket by the BCCI and their future still remains uncertain. The two players were suspended following an outrage spark because of their sexist comments on the show. It has been quite a while since then and a number of experts have opened up over the issue. Now former India opener Gautam Gambhir weighed in on the duo’s hopes of being on the 2019 World Cup squad.
Gambhir feels that a single player not being a part of the squad will not make any difference. Speaking about Rahul, Gambhir said that Rahul wasn’t in the playing XI since Ambati Rayudu very good during the West Indies series. “One person does not change anything. The core still remains the same. KL Rahul wasn’t even there in the playing XI because we had Rayudu who did fabulously well against West Indies, so he deserved a chance before Rahul in the one-day format,” he told ESPN Cricinfo.
Meanwhile, Vijay Shankar has been called in to replace Pandya. Gambhir thinks that Ravindra Jadeja is a long-term replacement. “Yes Hardik, but you’ve replaced him with Ravindra Jadeja, who again is an all-rounder. We only have, what, ten ODIs left before the World Cup? So we should maintain consistency and give people who are going to play the first game of the World Cup these ten games and see how they deliver,” said Gambhir.
