Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul controversy: CoA lifts suspension on the players with 'immediate effect'
Karan Johar’s popular show Koffee With Karan featured KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya in one of its recent episodes. Little did the cricketers know that their debut appearance on the Koffee couch would cost them two ODI matches. However, the suspension on the two players was lifted by the Committee of Administrators (CoA) on Thursday. This comes after the CoA had asked the Supreme Court to appoint an ombudsman to inquire into the matter. The case is now delayed tentatively for February 5.
As per the law, investigation and verdict over misconduct by cricketers registered with the BCCI can be done by an ombudsman of the board. The appointment of the ombudsman is, however, pending and due to which the CoA decided that the provisional suspension should be lifted. “Since the adjudication of all allegations of misconduct against any cricketer registered with, inter alia, the BCCI is required to be undertaken by the BCCI Ombudsman, whose appointment is pending directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, the CoA is of the view that the interim suspension orders dated 11.01.2019 should be presently lifted with immediate effect,” a release issued by the CoA on Thursday (January 24) read.
“The above matter and decision has been taken with the concurrence of the Learned Amicus Curiae, PS Narasimha. In view of the above, the suspension orders dated 11.01.2019 is immediately lifted pending appointment and adjudication of the allegations by the BCCI Ombudsman,” the release added.
Commenting on the on-going matter, Karan Johar on Wednesday also gave a statement, in which he apologized as it was his platform where it happened.
“I have had so many sleepless nights, wondering about how I can undo this damage, who is going to listen to me. It’s now gone into a zone which is beyond my control,” the filmmaker said at an event.
