India took on Australia in the last and final match of their series in India. Played at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground in New Delhi, India lost the match and the five-match ODI series. While the rest of the nation is rueing the loss, Rohit Sharma has reason to celebrate after he reached a key personal milestone in the match. During the 22nd over, the cricketer went past the 8000 run mark in ODIs (One Day Internationals). Before the match began, he was 46 runs away from the 8000 runs mark and after this feat, Rohit Sharma becomes only the third fastest batsman to reach this mark. He now enjoys the spot alongside the legendary Sourav Ganguly. Both Ganguly and Sharma took 200 innings to achieve the milestone.
Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is at the number one spot after he took just 175 innings to reach the 8000 runs mark. Virat Kohli is followed by South Africa's AB de Villiers, who reached the milestone in 182nd innings. God of cricket Sachin Tendulkar took 210 innings to reach the same milestone. Rohit Sharma is the ninth Indian cricketer to boast of 8000 runs. Before Sharma, other cricketers to reach this mark were Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Mohammad Azharuddin, Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag. BCCI took to Twitter to congratulate Sharma on his milestone.
While the 8000 runs is a big deal, Sharma also made his 41st ODI half-century during this match.
This is a special moment for Rohit Sharma given that a milestone like this is something many cricketers only dream of.
