India vs Pakistan WC 2019 match: Over 4,00,000 applications for 25,000 tickets
Pulwama terrorist attack has surely changed a lot of things between India and Pakistan. Artistes from the neighbouring country have been banned from working in India and now, citizens in India are also keen that India doesn’t play with Pakistan in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. While BCCI is yet to take a decision on this, ICC has released the match schedule on their website and India is set to compete with Pakistan on June 16, 2019, at Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester.
During a promotional event in London, ICC World Cup tournament director Steve Elworthy revealed that India vs Pakistan match is in demand and there are over 400000 applications for tickets. ESPN Cricinfo has quoted Steve as saying, "That particular game (India vs Pakistan), we had over 400,000 applications for tickets, which is an incredible number. The stadium (Old Tarfford) only holds 25,000 people. So there are a number of disappointed people. That's just locally, but (there is also) the audience globally.”
"To put that (number) in perspective, England vs Australia was around 230-240,000. And the final was around about 260-270,000 applications for tickets. So that gives you a bit of perspective for the demand for this match (India v Pakistan). It's a big game. They could end up playing each other in the final (too), you never know," he added.
However, on Tuesday, ICC Chief Executive David Richardson said, "There is no indication that any (of the) matches at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup will not go ahead as planned.”
Now we can only wait and watch to see whether the match between India and Pakistan will take place or will it be avoided.
