Indian Premier League 2019: Kolkata Knight Riders start off their official training session
It is hot and humid in Kolkata (it always is) but that’s never stopped anyone in the city from playing cricket. From congested gullies to the scorching Maidan, you’ll always hear the familiar sound of a bat hitting a ball. Staying true to the nature of their home city, the two-time Indian Premier League champions, Kolkata Knight Riders are out in the sun, starting off their first official net session. The Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise shared updates on twitter showcasing its players sweating it out.
From the shared images, it seems like the session began with KKR going out with all guns. The lads can be seen batting, bowling and even getting into fielding practice. A couple of players were also working out with some sports equipment. Since this was a training session, the Knights were not wearing their usual purple jerseys. Instead, they wore a red jersey with black patches. From the Twitter posts, it seemed like the session included veterans Robin Uthappa, Dinesh Karthik, and Piyush Chawla.
Last year, the practice session was reportedly held at the Jadavpur University second campus grounds in Salt Lake. It is possible that the club used the same ground this year as well, though there is no confirmation. Meanwhile, the team also saw a new signing in Sandeep Warrier. The player was unsold at the auction but was picked up by KKR after Kamlesh Nagarkoti was injured.
Details on Nagarkoti’s injury is not known. As for Warrier, he picked up eight wickets in six games and had even scalped a hat-trick against Andhra, for Kerala in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. Ali was previously with Royal Challengers Bangalore for three seasons (2013-2015) but did not play any match.
