As India gets set for their second clash against Australia at Perth on December 14, the BCCI shared a nostalgic video of Ishant Sharma at the same venue in 2008. Playing only in his fourth Test match back then, Ishant bowled a marvellous over and managed to dismiss the dangerous Ricky Ponting, the then captain of Australia. Facing Ishant, Ponting looked to be very nervy at the crease surviving a few close LBW shouts. He eventually succumbed to a superb delivery that he edged to Rahul Dravid at slip.
Ishant mentioned a couple of things that people have failed to notice even ten years since the match. He revealed that he was wearing two different pairs of shoes on that occasion, adding that as youngsters, “we are very raw and we just want to play for fun.” Speaking about the ball which dismissed Ponting, the lanky pacer said that there wasn’t anything special about that ball.
The fast bowler revealed that he had bowled Ponting a couple of inswingers. For the wicket delivery, he had done something similar and pitched it at the same length, but the ball went straight. “Before this ball, I kept bowling inswingers, but for this delivery, I pitched it on the same length, but the ball went straight and took Ponting’s edge. Even I thought that I had bowled an outswinger,” said Ishant, adding that at that time, he didn’t know how to bowl outswingers. What a player!
