Cricket games are intense and match-spoilers are no fun. Matches can be halted for multiple reasons like bad weather to bee attacks, but here is a first of its kind disturbance. A man, identified as Girish Sharma, drove his car onto the field of play and straight to the pitch during the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh Ranji game at Palam ‘A’ ground in New Delhi on Friday. In what has been identified as a major security breach, both teams were left as dumbfounded.

A number of international players like Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Ishant Sharma and Rishabh Pant are on the ground which has left officials worried. While there were no injuries of any sort due to the incident, it may well have been a different story given that ISIS is known to execute most of their attacks in a similar pattern.

It was around 4:40 pm, 20 minutes from the close of play, a silver grey Wagon R suddenly drove onto the field of play with Uttar Pradesh batting in their second innings. An eyewitness told PTI, “the accused Girish Sharma tried to swerve his car twice on the 22-yard strip, like he was attempting to draw an 8, before stopping.”

According to Hindustan Times, the man did not mean to interrupt the match and said that he was lost. Authorities, however, suspect the man may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol or suffering from mental problems.Although the match is being held at the Services' home ground, the host of this particular match is Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA). “The man looked a complete mess,” a Delhi & District Cricket Association official on the scene told HT. “He was driving the car wearing a lungi. In fact, when he was being bashed up for his act, he hardly reacted. He did not look in perfect mental health.”
