The nation has been seething with anger over the Pulwama attack that took the lives of over 40 jawans. There’s a demand from the people of the country that India should not play any matches with Pakistan. Not just that, they even want the neighbouring country banned from the ICC World Cup 2019. Now the biggest question is what will happen in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 given that the official website of ICC has already scheduled a match between India and Pakistan on June 16, 2019. Recently, former Indian team captain Sourav Ganguly spoke about the dilemma and he feels that it won’t be an issue if India doesn’t play a match in the World Cup.
PTI quoted him as saying, "This is a 10-team World Cup and each team plays matches against every other team and I feel if India doesn't play a match in the World Cup, it won't be an issue. I feel it will be really difficult for ICC to go on with a World Cup without India. But, you also have to see if India has the power to stop ICC from doing such a thing. But, personally, I feel a strong message should be sent."
Ganguly also went on to say that not just in sports, India should break all ties with the neighbouring country. He said, "And, whatever reactions came from the people of India... was right. There is no chance of a bilateral series with Pakistan after this incident. I agree that after this attack, India should not only stop playing cricket, hockey or football with Pakistan but should cut all ties with them.”
Now let’s wait and watch what decision the BCCI will take for World Cup 2019.
