Former India batsman VVS Laxman announced his dream Test XI while commentating a match between India and Sri Lanka in Kolkata. Laxman appointed Virat Kohli as the captain for the team. Some of the major omissions from this list includes former England skipper Alistair Cook and pacer James Anderson.
While Indian batsmen were battling it out, former cricketers Aakash Chopra and Murali Karthik quizzed Laxman on his dream test XI. It was surprising to see Cook being omitted as he averages 53.12 in the subcontinent. When Chopra asked Laxman on it, he replied,” [David] Warner is an impact player and I will always choose him over Cook.” Surprisingly, Laxman even favoured Warner for Indian conditions where he has no hundred so far.
Laxman chose Virat Kohli to lead the team as he thinks he is more proactive than Joe Root and Steven Smith. For bowlers, he chose the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Ravichandran Ashwin.
However, the list does not have any Sri Lankan, Pakistani or New Zealand player. Kane Williamson is the 12th man.
Laxman’s Xi include: David Warner, Hashim Amla, Joe Root, Virat Kohli (c), Steven Smith, AB de Villiers (wk), Shakib Al Hasan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mitchell Starc, Kagiso Rabada, Josh Hazlewood. Kane Williamson as 12th man.
