Cricket celebrities and their lookalikes have always been a craze among fans. Over the years, fans have had a ring-side view of many doppelgängers of cricket maestros Sachin Tendulkar, Virendra Sehwag and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. But rarely have come across a look-a-like who has his own celebrity status, with a large number of fan following included. 27-year-old Virat Kohli look-a-like Gaurav Narang from Kanpur is exactly that. The Indian skipper Virat Kohli has a great fan following around the world but this Kanpur champ has gotten the attention of Virat’s fans too.
Like other lookalikes, Narang gets his share of attention too. Maybe more than he bargained for. During an ODI match between India and South Africa at the Greenpark Stadium (WHEN) crowds mistook him to be Virat Kohli and began surrounding him, taking selfies and seeking an autograph.
Years later, Gaurav had the chance to meet the real Viral Kohli during a match in Kanpur. Unrecognized by the staff and players alike, Gaurav reminisces how he was treated with respect by the staff who assumed he was Virat Kohli. In-fact, Harsha Bhogle himself was stunned and even mentioned the incident during the match’s commentary. While he may have to settle for a less jet-setting and not-so-famous life, Gaurav enjoys being a mistake as one of the world's more most prolific sportsperson.
