Ever since his international debut, team India’s #3 batsman, Cheteshwar Pujara, has always drawn a comparison with The Wall, Rahul Dravid. While the legendary batsman was the backbone of the Indian cricket back in his playing days, Pujara has taken over the mantle from his senior and is getting the job done presently. The two have many things in common and in what can be called as the mother of all the coincidences, the BCCI compared the Man of the Match of Cheteshwar Pujara award with that of Rahul Dravid. The story behind it is simply amazing.
Back in 2003, winning a test match on the overseas tour was a rarity and the win on the Australian soil was a big thing. But Rahul made it possible in the Adelaide Test, 13 years ago. Rahul had played an innings of 233 and 72* in India's victory whereas, in the current test series, Pujara scored a century (123) in the first innings and followed up with a score of 71 in the second innings. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a special tweet on the occasion, recalling the unique coincidence between the two teams.
Both, the star Indian batsman winning the Man of the Match awards aren’t the only coincidence. Pujara completes his 5000 runs recently in the first test. Interestingly, Dravid, too, completed 5000 runs in the same number of innings (108). Both, Dravid and Pujara, also completed 3000 runs in 67 innings and 4000 runs in 84 innings, respectively.
Pujara who top scored with the bat helped team India register their first win in the first test of the series in Australia. We hope Pujara’s great form with the bat continues and the India team continues their domination over world cricket.
