The 2nd ODI clash between the hosts India and visitors Australia was a high-intensity match which went on till the last over. India managed to win the match by 8 runs in the end and displayed team effort on the pitch. In a nail-biting encounter, while it was Virat Kohli who was the man of the moment as he helped India put a decent score on board with the help of his 40th One Day century, all-rounder Vijay Shankar, in the end, took away all the limelight. With his contribution with the bat in the first innings and later on his calculative bowling, in the end, stood out.
Just playing in his sixth One Day International match, Vijay played a crucial part in batting as he along with skipper Virat Kohli added valuable 81 runs partnership. After scoring an important 46 off 42 balls, Shankar was handed over the responsibility of the last over when the Aussies needed 11 off the last over. Known more as a batsman who can bowl medium pace, Shankar grabbed the opportunity with open hands and the team ended up on the winning side. Though his efforts didn’t win him the Man of the Match award but surely has got his placed fixed in the 15 member squad for the upcoming World Cup in England and Harbhajan said it aloud.
Apart from Bhajji other players, too took to Twitter and lauded team India and the 28-year old all-rounder’s efforts in the victory.
