Ellen DeGeneres lauds Dutee Chand for coming out of the closet
Ellen DeGeneres supports Dutee Chand's admission of her sexuality.
Olympian Dutee Chand made headlines when she announced that she is in a same-sex relationship, making her the first Indian sportsperson to do so. The sprinter got a lot of attention and support for her admission. One of the supporters included Hollywood comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. The star tweeted a reply to a news article which mentioned Chand’s statements and praised her for the announcement.
DeGeneres herself had come out as a homosexual person on national television about two decades ago. She hailed Chand as a champion and supported her decision of revealing herself and accepting her sexuality in front of the world where many look at same-sex relationships as something out of the ordinary. Ellen is a supporter of the LGBTQ community and their rights. She often makes use of her popularity to comment on the communities concerns on her show, The Ellen Show.
Ellen supports Dutee Chand
During a May 19 interview with The Sunday Express, Chand said that she is currently in a relationship with a woman from her own village. A resident of eastern Odisha, Chand mustered the courage to come out of the shadows after the Supreme Court struck down a colonial-era law that banned same-sex relationships.
Dutee Chand alleged her sister has been blackmailing her
"I have found someone who is my soulmate. I believe everyone should have the freedom to be with whoever they decide they want to be with," Chand said in the interview. However, things were not very easy for Chand, who told the media recently that her sister has been blackmailing her. She revealed that her sister demanded Rs 25 lakh. “My own sister is blackmailing me, she asked me for Rs 25 lakh. She had once beaten me, I'd reported to the police. Since she was blackmailing me, I was forced to come out about my relationship,” she told ANI.Read More
