All-rounder Arjun Tendulkar is back in the news as he successfully managed to make into the top 15 of the under-23 squad. After performing well in the recently concluded DY Patil T20 Cup and RFS Talyarkhan Memorial Invitation Tournament, Arjun got this call. Last year in 2018, he received his maiden call from India Under-19 team after impressing in age-group cricket for Mumbai. Looks like post his session with the Indian team in England last year, Arjun’s game has improved by heaps and this is just the start.
Reportedly, Tendulkar junior has successfully managed to grab his spot in the 15member squad for BCCI’s One Day League and Knockout. The 15-member squad led by Jay Bista will start its campaign in Jaipur on February 15 against Punjab. Left-handed medium pace bowler Arjun received the call after his fabulous performances in the recently-concluded RFS Talyarkhan Memorial invitation tournament where he picked up four wickets.
Mumbai U-23 coach Amit Pagnis was all praises for the 19-year-old after his performance in the Talyarkhan Memorial. “He conceded only five runs from two overs [18th and 20th overs] and also got the priced wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal [of MCA Colts]. He also bowled well in the two trial matches, claiming two wickets in each game. Yorkers, bouncers and slower ones are his main strengths.”
Talking about his performances in past, the all-rounder had picked up 19 wickets in five matches, including two five-wicket hauls, for Mumbai Under-19 in the 2017-18 Cooch Behar Trophy. In September 2017, Arjun was picked in the one-day side for the JY Lele invitational tournament in Baroda. Although not a BCCI tournament but his performance had helped him break into the Mumbai Under-19 set up.
Arjun is surely heading towards the bigger things and will hopefully make it to the Indian team.
