Sports may divide players into teams but it unites them when it comes to respecting the flag. Flags of any nation for that matter. This seems to be the case when Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi asked a young woman to hold her national flag straight while posing for a selfie with him. Afridi won hearts for showing respect for his neighbouring country’s flag.
Afridi got Twitter abuzz with his “Flag seedha karo” comment showing the true sportsman in him. Never the man to shy away from commenting out loud, this time he struck a chord across the border. The former Pakistan cricket team captain was in Swiss town of St. Mortiz to play a T20 match of ice cricket to promote tourism for the country.
The match saw two teams one headed by Indian cricketer Virendra Sehwag and the other by Afridi himself. Other players in attendance included Australia’s Mike Hussey, Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar, Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardene.
While Afridi may have not scored big in the match he did score big on social media with his comment. Having commanded a respectful selfie with the Indian woman, the cricketer went on to pose with people of other nationalities and their respective flags. Twitterati fell in love with him.

Afridi's team emerged victorious by six wickets in the first of two matches. Sehwag's Palace Diamonds put up 164/9 in 20 overs with him top-scoring with 62.
Lovely gesture by Shahid Afridi and waiting to find this girl’s photo with him. https://t.co/ynZzk4pvtg— Ammara Ahmad (@ammarawrites) February 10, 2018
