At WWE’ Backlash this year, Jinder Mahal beat Viper to be crowned the 50th WWE Champion. Jinder is not only the first Indian WWE champion but he sort of created history by returning home with the WWE championship belt. Jinder’s WWE journey too has been a rollercoaster ride. He signed for them in 2002, but after a poor run he decided to part ways with the company. However his second stint seems to be a very successful one defeating industry stalwarts like Randy Orton, AJ Styles and Shinshuke Nakamura. He was born to Punjabi parents in Canada and did not visit India before 1996. His understanding of India and its culture came from the stories he heard from his parents. Jinder grew up in a wrestling family and is the nephew of Stampede Wrestling legend Gama Singh.
