In a ‘tech’nical effort to tackle crime in UP, Agra police has launched a YouTube Channel named ‘Agra Range Crime Video’. This is a first of its kind in Uttar Pradesh and the channel aims to track absconding criminals in the state. The police have planned to develop a cyber-intelligence network that will run parallel to its human intelligence.
With their first video published on September 5, 2017, the channel has 200 subscribers, 22 videos and an average of 100 views on each video. Most of these videos have been sourced from CCTV footages in and around ATMs. With not many likes or comments on each of these videos, they don’t seem to be benefiting in any way.In a unique attempt, the police are attempting to develop a crowd-sourced based information network and user-generated content, to crack cases which have been a mystery for years.
Current videos include suspects of robbery, ATM theft, etc
The Agra police have issued a Closed User Groups (CUG) number 9454457732, where one can share information about suspects or suspicious activity.
The traction on the page is slow, responses close to nil. However, it would be unfair to undermine the efforts by the UP police force. If and when these videos get an effective response, this method can soon set an example for the other states. Till then let’s hope ‘Agra Crime Range Video’ will help police identify and spot the criminals.
