Will The History Repeat On Silver Screens As Well?
It is deadly September as Bollywood buffs get a chance to peek into the lives of two key players from the dark alleys of Mumbai underworld - Arun Gawli and Haseena Parkar. While Daddy released on September 8, Haseena Parkar hits the theatres on September 22. Both Arun Gawli and Haseena Parkar had several common grounds. Not only they are set in the same era, they also have gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli in common.
Speaking to In.com Haseena Parkar's director Apoorva Lakhia said, "It's a great homework for Haseena Parkar. People will watch Daddy and they will come to know of the times. They'll come to know about the gang wars and different affected localities.” Detailing the importance of the release dates, Lakhia adds, “Daddy's character is very pivotal for us because he was one of the reasons why violence ensued in the form of gang wars. Ibrahim Parkar was shot down 17 times in front of his wife. It's a fact that Haseena carried him on her shoulders alone to JJ Hospital. We have tried to include all these facts."
In the early 1980s, Arun Gawli was reportedly protecting Dawood Ibrahim's consignments of smuggled electronic goods. However, Dawood and Gawli's mentor, Rama Naik, started having a disagreement over a piece of land. When Rama was eliminated by Dawood, Gawli declared war on D-Company. As the fight escalated, Dawood’s henchman killed Gawli's brother Bappa. Daddy retaliated by gunning down Dawood's brother-in-law Ibrahim Parkar, Haseena’s husband, with the help of professional shooters in 1991.
It was after her husband's death, Haseena Parkar aka ‘Godmother of Nagpada’ rose to fame and became the undisputed queen of Mumbai’s underworld. The Gordon Hall Apartments in Nagpada became her headquarters as soon as she took over Dawood's business. Fate or con-incidence, whatever you may call it, it was Daddy who made the queen what she is. Will that history repeat on the silver screens as well? We’ll have to wait and see.
While Haseena Parkar is set to release on September 22nd
, the release date for the film seen multiple changes in the last 2 months, the makers feel that a delay in the release may prove correct as Arjun Rampal's already released Daddy will provide background to the Shraddha Kapoor's starrer.
