Eight people were killed and many more injured after a truck drove through the bike path in Manhattan in New York City on November 1, 2017. The accused has been identified as Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov.
(Twitter: Satya. @brah_mos)Sayfullo, 29, is an Uber driver from Uzbekistan with ties to Florida and New Jersey. Reports said Sayfullo Saipov jumped a curb along West St. and rumbled along a bike and pedestrian path for nearly four blocks, crushing people in the unsuspecting crowd.

Footage shows him running through the streets of Manhattan and displaying firearms after getting down the rental truck. He was shot in the abdomen by police. He was later found to be carrying a pellet gun and paintball gun and not real firearms.

The attacker currently remains in a critical condition in hospital. He is expected to survive.

James O’Neill, NYPD commissioner, praised New Yorkers who turned out for Tuesday evening’s Halloween parade despite the attack.
NYC Mayor De Blasio holds a press conference and declares the incident to be a terror attack.
PM Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the victims of the attack.
